SUMMARY OF THE EVENT: A major increase of the ionospheric VTEC occured during the day of the 31st of August associated with the arrival of the high speed solar streams. The geomagnetic index Kp reached 5 at Dourbes. Above Brussels, there was up to +12 TECu (150%) of differences with respect to the median of the last 15 days.

Figure 1 shows the time evolution of the Vertical Total Electron Content (VTEC) (in red) extracted from the near-real time VTEC maps at 3 different latitudes (Figure 2): a) Northern part (top), b) Brussels (middle) and c) Southern part (bottom).
