SUMMARY OF THE EVENT: A major increase of the ionospheric VTEC occured the 13th of October associated with the arrival of the CME of the 9th of October. Above Brussels, there was up to +27 TECu (260%) of differences with respect to the median of the last 15 days. The event last all day long and continued at night in the north with ionospheric TEC instabilities.

Figure 1 shows the time evolution of the Vertical Total Electron Content (VTEC) (in red) extracted from the near-real time VTEC maps at 3 different latitudes (Figure 2): a) Northern part (top), b) Brussels (middle) and c) Southern part (bottom).
